Ignatius Court

A Wahpeton Sioux from the Spirit Lake area. USA government agencies refer to Spirit Lake as Devils lake. He fought against other North American tribes, and on both sides, for the USA and the Canadians. Part of the negotiating committee and signitory of treaties with the USA.

Born about 1866/69 with the Sioux name of Ta Ma Za Ho Tanka. He appears to have taken the name of Ignatius Court under the influence of French-Canadian missionaries or church groups.
